🅒 Boubou Hama National Museum Niamey (Niger) 2011 Partners: Najlae Chairich and Omar Zerhouni, architects
The museum wanted a pavilion to show the rammed earth architecture of the country. We propose a building that could show the possibilities of the construction system, using some items that are not from this region, however, they are also built with earth. That is the case of the wind-catchers, used in Iran as natural ventilation.
The other purpose was to protect the material from the rain, the main enemy of earth constructions. We use ceramic material for the facades and a also to cover the courtyard with a tensile structure made of ceramic and steel wires.

Le musée voulait un pavillon pour montrer l'architecture en terre du pays. Nous proposons un bâtiment qui pourrait montrer les possibilités du système de constructif en terre, en utilisant certains éléments qui ne sont pas de cette région, mais qu'ils sont également construits avec la terre. C'est le cas des capteurs de vent, utilisés en Iran comme ventilation naturelle.
L'autre but était de protéger la terre de la pluie, l'ennemi principal de ce type de constructions. Nous utilisons des matériaux céramiques pour les façades et pour la couverture de patio avec une structure tendue faite de fils en acier et pièces céramiques.

El museo quería un pabellón para mostrar la arquitectura de tierra del país. Propusimos un edificio que pudiera mostrar las posibilidades del sistema constructivo, utilizando algunos elementos que no son de esta región, pero que también se construyen con tierra. Ese es el caso de los captadores de viento utilizados en Irán como ventilación natural.
El otro propósito era proteger el material de la lluvia, el principal enemigo de la tierra. Utilizamos material cerámico para las fachadas y también para cubrir el patio con una estructura tensada de cables de acero y piezas cerámicas.
