Caravane Tighmert 2019
artists gathering
This year we did not apply for fundings (there were no money from the province or from the region for this kind of event) but local associations from Guelmim (Sud Pixel and Tribal Dynamo) wanted to collaborate with us, searching for donations and for material (a stage for the concerts, a mini-bus for the students…). We also had a proposal from Claudia Triozzi, who has already come twice to the oasis (the second during Caravane Tighmert 2017). As a teacher at Paris Cergy National Graduate School of Art, she wanted to come with her students as well as the students from the Tetouan National Institut of Fine Arts, where I have been doing workshops since 2016.
Even without fundings, we organised three activities, one for visual artist, another for musicians and a third one for art students.
music
Thanks to them we could scheduled one day for concerts because they provided us the sound and light material for free. For us it was very important to recover the concerts, giving the opportunity to young musicians to perform on live. For that reason we published an open call for musicians and we received 7 candidates (it was really a test because people in Guelmim are not used to apply for concerts).
Khadija El Abyad
Khadija was born in Agadir and she studied in Tetouan (at INBA), but her family is originally from Assa, a city 100 km southeast of Tighmert, and she never went to visit that place, so for her was very important to have the opportunity to come so close to her origins with all its meanings, and also to go to Assa where she collected some fabrics she used the last day to do this performance.
Cie Hna-ya
Saïd El Haddaji and Manon de Matauco came to explore the oasis and they were very generous with us and the inhabitants. They did several workshops with the kids and they also performed twice. More information about Cie Hna-ya, here.
Marion Lécrivain and Lucie Sassiat
Marion came to continue the preparations of her short-movie that she will shot with the children of the oasis.
Souad El Maysour
After several years coming to Tighmert and to other places related to slavery, like Senegal, her work was shown in an exhibition in Bordeaux. Of course we were very proud to see how the oasis and its history can be shown through the eye of a contemporary artist in other cities and countries.
